Fizz & food – your perfect summer evening out

In the not-too-distant past, the idea of going down to a vineyard and whiling away the evening with a backdrop of flourishing vines and a slow summer sunset was reserved for holidays in France – but not anymore!  Those of us lucky enough to live in Dorset not only have a world-renowned coastline on our doorstep, but a world-class wine estate tucked away on the fringe of the AONB, just 15 minutes from Dorchester.

At Langham Wine Estate, we produce low-intervention sparkling wine that rivals that of France and Italy – and don’t just take our word for it. We were awarded the trophy for Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year at the International Wine and Spirits Competition 2020.  Veuve Clicquot were the winners in 2019, and last year we fought off competition from hundreds of wineries around the world including Mumm Champagne, Le Bertole Valdobbiadene Prosecco and fellow English producer Gusbourne.

What’s on at Langham this summer?

We’re open for tours, tastings, lunch and wine sales (current opening hours available on our website).  Our guided tours are selling out quickly, so we recommend booking in for your vineyard experience as soon as possible.

If you’re looking for evening entertainment, after a successful run of Fizz Fridays last year, we have decided to open on Friday and Saturday nights this summer for our themed food and wine evenings and all events are available to book now on our website.  Mel Pankhurst of Langham Vineyard Café rustles up a different menu each week using a host of local Dorset producers, ranging from pizza nights, charcuterie and sharing boards, to tapas nights and sumptuous seafood feasts.

There is something rather special about a British summer evening spent outdoors, watching the sun linger in the sky till 10pm slowly dipping below the regimented rows of vines that are full of promise for the coming year’s harvest, all whilst sipping on wine that was made just a few metres away.  To complete the atmosphere of these evenings, we have a different local musician performing each week, including fiddle player Nina Garcia, singer-songwriter duo Milk & Two and blues artist Harry Skinner.

To those of you hearing alarm bells as we romanticise the beautiful British summer, we like to remain optimistic for balmy evenings. However, if that isn’t the case, we are prepared for all eventualities.  Our converted barn where we host these evenings has windbreak sides and infrared heaters, which saw us putting on events all the way through until December 2020, although dress code was definitely thermals, woolly socks and hats!  This adaptable venue allows us to pull tables out onto the terrace on sunny days, or tuck them away undercover when unpredictable weather surprises us.
