A huge event in the county’s annual events calendar, Dorset County Show celebrates Dorset’s rich heritage of agriculture and rural life. Having first exhibited in 1840, Dorchester Agricultural Society has been continually developing and expanding the show for over 175 years. This year’s event encompasses competitive classes from cattle, sheep, pigs, show jumping, and sheep shearing to homecraft, horticulture, farm produce and more. Entertainment in the main ring, proudly sponsored by DOMVS, ranges from falconry and horsemanship displays to fast-paced scurry racing and the much-loved Grand Parade of Livestock, which showcases some of the finest cattle, goats, pigs, and sheep the West Country has to offer.
Further attractions include a funfair, vintage tractors, ferret and terrier racing, heavy horses, rabbits, and poultry. Shopping opportunities abound, with over 450 trade stands as well as the Dorset Artisan Craft marquee, and Shopping@theAvenue, and local food and drink can be enjoyed across the show ground.
