Deep within the Purbeck countryside lies the civil parish of Arne, encompassing the villages of Stoborough Green, Ridge and Arne itself. Indisputably rural and benefiting from close proximity to the coast, the villages none-the-less provide the perfect work/life balance, being just a stone’s throw from the commercial hubs of Wareham and Poole.
The fascinating landscape surrounding the villages takes in Stoborough Heath National Nature Reserve, Arne Reedbeds National Nature Reserve and Arne RSPB Reserve, and all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. So full of wildlife is this part of Dorset that the BBC once chose the RSPB reserve as a filming location for ‘Winterwatch’. Just under two miles south of Stoborough Green is another remarkable natural feature known as The Blue Pool. A deep clay bowl, The Blue Pool’s vivid colour is ever-changing due to fine clay suspended in the water diffracting light in different ways.
