Expect quite a change from the trends we saw in 2018 as we move away from simple line art, stonewash bedding and brightly coloured, Ibiza-style interiors to scalloped edges, mermaid tiles, concrete bathrooms and darker toned kitchens….

Kitchens

Blue has replaced grey in the search for an on-trend kitchen, with navy blue being the main head turner. The dramatic, darker kitchen sets the precedent for 2019, whether it be a classic style or an ultra-modern, chic space. Both matt and powdery finishes replace the shiny gloss we have seen over the last few years.

Bathrooms

Metallic shades add a ‘bit of bling’ to the home and 2019 sees this trend being bought into the bathroom. A warmer, luxe look to brassware is introduced, presenting a glamorous addition to any design. For an elegant effect, pair with marble or wood. For those who want an edgier look, a wall mounted, industrial-inspired tap can give off cool vibes.

Surprisingly, concrete is increasingly becoming the go-to material for bathrooms. It’s a functional, tough and practical surface, which makes it a particularly great choice for bathrooms. Pair with those brass taps for an ultra-industrial yet stylish finish. New print and staining techniques allow you to use concrete as blank canvas to have fun with, and it can be honed and polished down into a super smooth surface.

Scallops, Scales and Mermaid Tiles

The ‘ocean blue’ has been the inspiration for the upcoming trends in interior design for 2019. From scalloped furniture to fish scale bathroom tiles, all things curved, wavy and ocean-inspired have been the driving force for creativity in this under-the-sea trend.

Continuing with the sea theme, there’s a new wave of tile shapes taking surfaces by storm. Tiles are steering away from regular square and rectangular shapes to more rounded edges. Fan-shaped fish scale tiles can be used in a shower room; think channelling your inner mermaid. Unusual patterns and colours can create an effective and sensational design. Consider using this design effect to make an otherwise lacklustre space into a striking showpiece. Options include fan-shaped scallop patterns; fish scales; curvy, eye-shaped T-drops; ornamental quatrefoils and the simple-but-effective hexagon.  These more unusual-shaped tiles can piece together to create striking effects – get wavy!

Textiles

Retro fringing is a look that’s swished from the catwalk and swayed right into our homes. Homeware will see the addition of tassels and embellishments making their way onto cushions and curtains, mirrors and lamps. Designers are turning their attention to the flirty edge that tassels can bring to home interiors.

Over the past few years, we have seen a massive rise in the popularity for this luxurious, statement material. With a soft, warm-yet-luxe and glamourous texture, velvet takes opulence to a new level.   Think of introducing a velvet sofa or bed – or even cushions – for a seductively sumptuous effect.

Crittall Style

Crittall style has been staging a comeback and not just as windows and doors, but as walls, rear extensions, room dividers and even shower screens. Here, the industrial trend is continued with this contemporary and versatile look. Crittall-style doors allow you to cleverly partition open areas to create different zones without compromising on light or space.
