We’ve joined forces with Silverlake, the sustainable holiday home development at Warmwell near to Dorchester, and Dorset Wildlife Trust to promote an eco-friendly competition to design your own unique bug house.

A bug house is a manmade structure created from natural materials and can be any shape or size. Most consist of several different sections and are used as nesting and hibernation sites. Residents come in all shapes and sizes, while they are especially popular with bees, ladybirds and butterflies. Bug Houses are also popular amongst gardeners and fruit and vegetable growers, due to them encouraging insect pollination.

Anyone can enter the competition, whether schools, businesses or individuals. The winners will be announced in May with the top three having their bug house built by Silverlake and presented to them, while the overall winning design will also have their bug house adopted by Silverlake and used around the development.

Entry forms are available from the DOMVS offices in Dorchester, Wareham and Preston or click the link below to download a copy.
